We are given a container by our garbage company to put recyclable products in, but we can also take the recyclables to local centers and get paid for what the material is worth. Do you opt for the convenience of a curbside pick-up or do you take your recyclables in and get the money for them yourself?

Re: Recyclables
We did the same where we lived before but out here we don't have a curb to leave them so I wait til I have a lot or til I am going that way on my way somewhere else and just drop them off. I recycle quite a few things right here at home. I use my cans food comes in to plant my seeds for the garden.

Re: Recyclables
Our city requests that we recycle, but hasn't made it mandatory. We choose to recycle and put our bins out at the curb once a week. The only things we need to return are plastic grocery bags. The supermarkets have bins outside for this purpose.
The only thing we have to remember to do is to ask for paper bags in order to comply with the city's guidelines. We have one bin for newspapers, but all other paper must be placed in paper bags, preferably grocery bags.
It's nice to be able to do our part.

Re: Recyclables
Our state (DE) is trying to make recycling mandatory, so you might want to check that out first. DE has actually discussed possible fines for those not recycling. So, you definately want to check that out first. If it is not mandatory, and if the place that pays you for recycling is not out of your way, I would go with getting paid.

Re: Recyclables
You are lucky. Here, in my town, you can recycle if you want, but you have to pay the trash company to do it! $5 montly for a glass bin, $5 for aluminum and $5 for paper. So, if you recycle, you pay an additional $15 a month to do it The nearest place to take recyclable items to is 90 miles away. So, in my town, most stuff gets pitched.
