  • Chase checking - $100 reward

In my new city, I have decided to open an account at Chase, since that city doesn't have branches of my current banks. I heard about an offer for $100 gift when you open a new checking account with direct deposit (which I plan to do anyways), and found a coupon on ebay:

$100 Bonus for Opening a Chase Checking Account » Consumerism Commentary: A Personal Finance Blog

CHASE BANK BONUS CERTIFICATE WORTH $100.00 EXP 2-29-08 - eBay (item 120205612417 end time Jan-07-08 15:40:43 PST)

    Does this look legit?

Not sure about Chase, but those types of offers are legit in many cases. My wife used a similar coupon for BoA we received in our "welcome" packet in our new city. I think we have to have the account either 3 or 6 months before we get the incentive.

Not to be nitpicky, but you could probably save yourself the $2 shipping/bidding by calling Chase directly and asking for the deal.

I opened a checking account with Chase to get their $100 bonus in October. As far as I know, these were the only 2 "catches":

      1) Account must stay open for at least 6 months.
      2) The $100 bonus counts as interest for tax purposes.

Depending on the account, you might have to set up direct deposit to avoid an account fee. I've got $10/paycheck going in there, and haven't had any problems.
