  • CompuServe SUCKS!

Compuserve really pissed me off today. I had been using them for over three years and decided to cancel the account and they charged me $30 to cancel the account. So I will tell anyone and everyone never, ever, use that Internet service. OK - that is my rant for the day.

Is there any way to complain about these cancellation fees that companies asses?

        Re: CompuServe SUCKS!

Although I don't remember anything about it, apparently I agreed to pay more than on a month to month basis (another reason to read contracts more carefully). I have them sending me a copy so I can make sure I really did and find out why I missed that part. I'm sure it was buried deep somewhere which is another reason not to trust that company.

It's ultimately thier loss. I will tell all my friends (and anyone else who will listen) never, ever to use Compuserv. It was a stupid business move on their part. They got $30 of my money, but they'll lose a lot more in the long run. That's what happens to companies that are deceptive and don't place all the terms up front.

          oh man, I agree!
I was so frustrated with Compuserve today that I actually googled "compuserve sucks" so that i could vent someplace!

first an eternity on hold -- then what seems like hours convincing them that I *am* the primary card holder, that it is actually their fault and not mine that they don't have any record of the three separate times I have faxed their billing department to confirm that I am the primary cardholder and that it really is impossible to speak with the person THEY have down as the primary cardholder -- (my dad who passed away two years ago).

The worst part is this $31.90 "cancellation fee" in which they claim that I entered into some two-year agreement and that I'm breaking. Asked to see a copy of what I signed -- and, of course, they said I need to fax the billing department. No phone number. Naturally.

These people are complete scam artists.

I am so happy that this thread gave someone else a chance to vent - I was so angry when I had to deal with them. It also pleases me to no end that this is the number one search for compuserve sucks in google. I hope one day it will be the number one search for just "compuserve" I hope in the end this thread convinces enough people to no join compuserve that the $30 they got off of me will cost them $30,000 or more. And I hope more people that have had a bad experience with them take a couple of minutes to vent here so everyone knows just how badly they treat people.

wow, I'm surprised they are still in business. I haven't heard of them since 2000.

Do what I do...use your neighbors wireless connection - hey its free

Being me no I am not screwing up their connection. But seeing how poorly their networks are configured one could potentially do a lot of damage. In fact, I could reconfigure their routers to lock them out of their own Internet connections.

It amazes me that in each of the three rooms of the apartment I can connect to three different unprotected wireless networks. Unfortunately, just because these days one can buy a wireless router for $30 at a local computer store doesn't mean they know what they are doing, its not like a TV where you take it out of the box and turn it on.

If you have a wireless network at home, please read the manual, specially the security sections. If your neighbor is using your wireless connection then for sure your wireless network is not configured properly.

In my case, I have told two of my neighbors and they could care less. However, the connection I use frequently (and I don't know who's it is) is very well protected except the Internet connection is left open on purpose for all to use. Of course, this person could be eaves dropping and watching everyone's communication...but there are ways to get around this too.

                    Re: CompuServe SUCKS!

Just a few quick hints to protecting your wireless connection:

                    1. Don't broadcast your SSID so people can't easily find your network
                    2. Enable WEP (or better yet WPA if your OS and router support it) and change the keys often
                    3. filter MAC addresses

There's a lot more to it than what I listed above but that should be more than enough for an average home network. There's a reason why most network security guys get 6 figure salaries

Don't forget to post your complaint on www.planetfeedback.com

I ahve had problems with other companies and this really helps! Most companies will have someone call you to clear up the "misunderstanding".

                        Re: CompuServe SUCKS!

This reminds me I have to write pizza hut and complain. They lost our order. I think. I walked out I was so mad and hungry.

We phoned the 310-1010 and got put to a call centre who then quoted me as being in a different city then I was. And then we went to pick up the pizza, and they said "Nope it's not here, must be at the other Pizza hut". So they called and told me it was there and we'd get a discount. SO WE DRIVE ACROSS TOWN (STUPID US) and they tell me "well we had one for a Mel, but it was picked up". I swore and left.

Do you think I'd get a better response by sending an email or taking the time and writing a letter and sending it by mail?
