  • Price of steel is going up, so is....

the price of elctricity, as the steel is used for the power plants, price of autos, and price of appliances that require steel, such as washers and dryers. We should start seeing this price increase in the spring. This is per my rural electric coop newsletter....

Now factor this in to the fuel price increase...where will it all end??? When it hits bottom.

Unlikely. At least in the short term. Most electric companies sign contracts with state or local governments for a certain time period, say 5 years. During the duration of that contract the price of electricity will be set. (So much per kilowatt hour for example)

Sorry, but our electric company has already announced our increase. It starts in March. My parents company announced an April increase. Both are blaming it on the price of steel and other supplies from China.

Also, the electric company here in town is asking for a rate increase, and has hearings set. The paper said it was due to the price of metals and other supplies....

Our bill should go up around $30 a month.

your local laws must be different than mine, unless your electric provider's contract happens to be expiring. My electric provider just renewed a new 3 year contract with the state last year. Prices are set until it expires.

Missouri has four electric utility companies that are investor owned and come under the regulation of the Missouri Public Service Commission so that rates must be approved. Not always do the power companies get approval for changes. However, there are ten power generating-distributing companies that are owned either by a city, a co-op group, or a private non-stock-issuing company. (6 co-ops, 3 municipal, and 1 private company). Those ten are not regulated by the state commission. Many people in rural areas participate in co-ops.

How much steel does an electric company use year to year if they are not building a new plant or putting up some of those huge sky-high towers? If an electric company is using a lot of steel, I would guess that they are expanding.

Increasing electricity rates means that we should also cut down on our power consumption. We need to get frugal when using computers and yes, even TV. So what do you think people?

I live alone for the most part except when my girlfriend is over on the weekends, so I don't use that much electricity to begin with. My bill is usually between $25 and $30 a month. I did get those nifty flourescent bulbs for all of my lamps. I actually like them better than regular bulbs as they seem to give off a nice white light.
