I think "working at home" is just basically saying "starting a business on your own". You obviously have to some good knowledge in an area or find an open niche.

You have to be disciplined and of course it helps I don't have kids running around. My habits have stayed the same as they did when I was in the hospital; I take a half-hour lunch and a break or two. No doubt I could strive to make better money but I just don't care to work the overtime which they beg us to do all the time; the job can get tedious and boring like any other, but the benefits sure do outweigh the down side. My working conditions are just great.
I applaud your modest and moderate life style, murphyc. It's nice to see a vindication of my own approach to life.

I honestly can't remember what the pay was because I didn't stick with it long enough. It was alright, though, for staying at home. You have to consider the expenses you don't have at home, like lunches out, transportation, fancy clothes, etc. The only purchase I made was a headset that plugs into the phone handset, and if I recall correctly, it was around $20.

You would sign up for a block of time to work and then sign on to the system at that time. They knew you were there working because you answered the calls.

I have a lot of clients (I'm a CPA and I work with a lot of work-at-home-moms) who make a good income working from home. Some sell on eBay, some have built a business purely around affiliate products, others have blogs or content sites that have enough visitors to generate good ad revenue. And of course, a lot of them are service providers - web design, consulting, virtual assistants, etc.

So there are opportunities to make money working from home, but you need to be able to wade thru all the scams to find them.

I recommend that you find people who are earning an income from home and network with them to find the best opportunity for you.

Here are some sites/forums that you might want to visit:

          Telecommuting Answer Lady.com
          Work at home Moms
Work at Home Moms - Internet Marketing & Networking
Work at Home Moms Internet Business Mentoring
Learn Internet Marketing Strategies Free at Self-Starters Weekly Tips!

These are all sites or forums where you will find people who successfully earn money from home. I encourage you to talk to these people to find out how they earn money from home and to find the right opportunity for you.

          Good luck!

I thank you for the sites. I will definitely check them out. I am definitely looking for something to supplement my regular income. I have been reading up a lot about adsense too. I'm in the beginning stages of looking into affiliate programs and such.

There are some very honest answers here and some opportunities I didn't know where ligit, and I've been researching this topic for years.

One way I know that you can truly make money at home, without going anywhere, is with a blog. There is sooo much information about this, it's mind boggling. The basic premise is if you're an expert on a topic, or can become an expert, and there are products related to it, you can make money.

I have an HDTV review blog/site. It's not making me rich, but it does supplement my income. Product reviews is a great way to go. Here are a couple of good places to get started if you're interested.

              digital point forum

If you're very creative and have or can afford some graphic design software, you might want to check out cafepress.com.

Rick01, thanks for the tip. I haven't started blogging yet, but when I do I will utilize this information. I have already saved it into my favorites.

Hi-I work at home selling gourmet candles. This is a very legitimate company. I've always been leary of other work from home programs, but I've been an independent distributor for this company for over a year and a half. We have a lot of work at home moms that have become distributors and even couples that make a living doing this. It's by no means a get-rich-quick type of company. It requires some time to get it going, like any new business starting up. If anyone is interested, I can send them information about the company.
