  • Modern PhoneTechnology? Yeah, Right.

What was supposed to be a scheduled 45 minute electric power interruption this morning in our locale actually wound up lasting several hours.

Our cordless phone was of course inoperative during this time. Fortunately, we kept our old conventional phone as a backup as that unit works as even in a blackout.

Despite the convenience of cordless phones, they're useless in these circumstances. Ironic, isn't it?

A good reminder. You should always have at least one traditional corded phone in the house for emergencies. As for those who only have cell phones, remember that batteries run down. If power is out for an extended time, you could find yourself with no phone. I guess you can get a car charger and charge it that way.

I have an old phone charger that runs on solar batteries. I should ebay it as I no longer have that cell phone-it died in a house fire. But it was great to take when camping or outside for long periods of time. You could clip the solar panel to a backpack to catch the suns rays while outside working or hiking. The solar panel was about the size of an index card.
