No, other web sites that offer free credit reports are tricks to get you to buy something else, or worse, scams.

Maybe one of the commercial services would work for you, jeffmem. I once used freecreditreport.com, but you do have to sign up for a paid service to get your report. However, the service was cancelable by 1-800 phone number within thirty days at no charge. I got my report and then made the cancellation call while the report was still on my monitor. I think I was given repeat access to the report for thirty days. So in effect the report was free. Um, if I remember correctly, I had to choose just one credit reporting agency's report to get--I could not get all three this way.

I will say that someone on this board did not realize they were signing up for a fee service when they used they used that site. But I just read the terms and it was clear that there' would be a fee unless I cancelled. I didn't feel like they signed me up without my permission. It was not even a matter of fine print; they made it clear what the deal was.

if im not mistaken, if you are ever denied credit by someone you can request a copy of your credit report for free. not sure about that but i think ive heard it somewhere.

Yes, I have also heard that lots of times, but no one ever tells you how to actually process the request! But this service is only for those who have been denied credit...
