  • How Often Do You Clean?

I came across this periodic cleaning chart that you can print out (it's in pdf format)

That shows you the basics of how often you should be cleaning stuff around the house. For those who like schedules, this could be a useful tool. I was just curious how others remember and motivate themselves to do all the cleaning around the house?

I cleaned my bathroom last month, and my kitchen this month. Next month it's the bedroom.

I don't know about this chart. Some of their weekly things I do daily. And, not too crazy about cleaning out the inside of the fridge every 3 months either. Gross. I do that weekly.

          i dont clean much

i share a fridge with my boyfriend and flatmate, and i only clean our crisper every week when i do our grocery shopping, but i don't think the rest of our fridge has EVER been cleaned, and we have been there for 18 months. teehee. it has wire racks so it's not as gross as it sounds.

I clean whatever part of the house that I feel is dirty enough by my standard. People are healthier if they have a little bit of germ to fight on a daily basis, so, um....yeah, my definition of dirty is different from others. On average, I would say once a month.

              Not enough....

On a good month (the kind when you can drop by anytime after 9am and see a reasonably clean house) I do most of their weekly stuff daily...but then I have three kids and we are all home all day, that makes a big difference in the cleaning needs.

On the other hand this month...every couple of days, please call before visiting! but still more than weekly....

Seems the number of children would greatly effect things like bathroom cleaning and sink cleaning (more cooking equals more cleaning)

As to the yearly and 6-9 months stuff...never..well not unless I get a 'bee in my bonnet' polish appliances? seriously ain't gonna happen (course I don't have stainless steel...)

I clean my desk everyday! I also make sure my sink is totally clean at least once a day, I do continuous sweeps of the house looking for garbage and laundry ,I do not even realize I am cleaning sometimes it comes so naturally

I want people not to be able to tell i have pets unless the pets are in sight

I have found my habits are great at work ,we have health inspections and the health inspector asked if I would come clean her house ;-)

I have no schedule I just clean what needs cleaned

do not boo me and throw garbage at me for this post ,I will just pick it up and move on LOL

I try to clean as I do things. That way it is not such a big task in the end.

I try to do something everyday so that it doesn't get overwhelming. I try to make sure everything gets cleaned at least once a week such as washing floors, changing sheets, dusting etc. Dishes are done every day.

realising i must now sound like a grot because i said we have never cleaned our fridge..! i have been living away from my parents for nearly two years and i can tell you, they were clean freaks! so i sort of relaxed a little once i moved out but i still can't stand a messy house. i do dishes around two times a day or more, the floor gets swept every two or three days and vacuumed and mopped once a week. our bathroom gets cleaned probably every fortnight but i think myself and my boyfriend are the only ones that actually clean the entire bathroom, our flatmate only cleans the shower and not the sinks or mirror etc. the toilet... its the only thing i cant stand cleaning because when we first moved in i was the only one that cleaned it, and there are three of us! why should i have to clean it for two boys!!??
but other than the usualy things, i dont really dust or clean walls or anything. we dont have any children running around so its surprising how clean a house can stay when its three adults who all work all the time living there.

As of 10 a.m. this morning, we have dusted, swept, mopped the kitchen and diningroom (hardwood floors), vacummed, emptied the dishwasher (I run it at night) and reloaded it with breakfast dishes, done 2 loads of laundry, made 4 beds, changed sheets on 1 of them, swept the front porch and back deck, wiped down the bathrooms, tidied our bedrooms and the office. It took my 3 daughters and I about 30 minutes. Part of the routine will be repeated later today. Living on a farm, our floors sometimes get vacummed, swept or mopped 2 or 3 times a day-depending on the weather.

In addition to the above, we also emptied the kitchen refrigerator & freezer, and wiped it all out with soapy bleach water, and put the food back in. Normally, I do that as we go along during the week, but the Sears repairman is coming today to fix the icemaker. Having been a phone repair person in the past, I know how gross it is to work on a dirty phone, so I am assuming he had his share of gross refrigerators. I just want to make sure he doesn't go out and tell others how gross mine was!

I do think a cleaner home is a healthier one-both physically and mentally! Plus, keeping it clean burns a few extra calories. Not to mention, it also saves money-keeping a close eye on the fridge and keeping it clean saves on food going to waste, and I am more organized and do not buy things I already have. Also saves on lights and energy by keeping grills, vents, light fixtures and windows clean.

I am probably a boarder line neat freak, thoug I dont think so. I generally try to put away a couple hand fulls of stuff every day. I only vacuum when I am expecting company though. I try to always take a couple bits of garbage out of my truck (mainly junk mail or the occasional soda bottle)every time I come home also.

I really dislike big clean up jobs, so I just spread it out.

Oh, I always HATED that mildew that forms on the shower curtains. I got some a year ago that said no mildew ever, and I though "Yeah right". By George they are just a spotless today as they were when I got em!

                              Dusting is for the birds.
