  • Tip: Halloween Safety & Dogs

Last year I was at the vet's office on November 1st. They were VERY busy with Halloween-related emergencies. To put it frankly, they had to induce vomitting in several dogs who had gotten ahold of Halloween treats.

Please remember that chocolate and raisins can be toxic to dogs. Save your dogs the stress and yourselves the expense of an emergency vet visit by keeping the Halloween treats far away from your dogs.

Yes - Raisins and grapes can cause renal failure. This has become widely known only in the past few years. If you're interested in learning more: http://www.aspca.org/site/DocServer/...pdf?docID=3782

There are other things that are not good for dogs (such as onions), but chocolate and raisins are the ones that are likely to be a problem around Halloween. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!

A lot of holidays can be tough on dogs. My ol' beagle used to go crazy with the doorbell ringing on Halloween. Fourth of July and New Years were tough on him until he went deaf, but he could always hear that doorbell. Some might need to bring their animals inside for Halloween, eh?
