With Halloween just around the corner, what things do you do to save money during Halloween?

    Well.. this is for kids---
I don't make costumes, because really, the materials cost just as much as store bought costumes when you are all done- I also don't buy new costumes - but rather I "scrounge" costumes. ( and sometimes borrow and recycle from other moms)
I always check our great thrift store for costumes and they have racks of things that can be worn as is-or re-made into something good. I can always find the "base" of an outfit- such as a black dress of some sort that can serve as a witche, spiderella, vampiress, ect. I look out for leotards to use if the kid wants to be a cat, or some other animal. I might have to buy ears, and then use make-up as face paint, but I strive for at least half of the costume to be used, re-purposed or re-made.

this week, Halloween is on a wednesday- there's about 2 hours of trick-or treating, then you come home, and then go to bed early for school the next day. I can't see the purpose of spending 30.00 on a costume they will only wear for 2 hours. THe excpetion to this of course if it;s a costume they can use all year playing dress- up. Some of the princess outfits are good for this.
