Job Searching

What methods do you find most useful when looking for a new job? Are there particular websites you visit? newspapers? etc?

I know word of mouth is best, but what do you do when you want to break into a new field and have no contacts in the new field? and little experience? it seems that most job listings ask for a TON of experience, even for entry-level positions. it is quite daunting.

Any advice would be most appreciated...I've been trying to get a job in the publishing field for two years now.

oh hell.. I know that my local paper is ALWAYS looking for people.. but then again.. I live in a small town...
have you tried a temp agency?

Network with friends. Let people know you are looking for a job and get the word out that way. I have always found that the most effective way of finding a job.

friends are always the easiest way...however, agencies can be very good also...if you do know about a place where you'd love to work: research it!...find out about the place, and try to find out the name of someone either in HR or a head in the department you want to work in, then send your resume, along with a killer cover letter telling them about your interest in working ther, to the attention of that person....
