  • How much do you pay for this?

    How much do you pay monthly for health insurance? My husband works for a major transportation company and has excellant benefits. We only pay $60.00 a month for a PPO family plan. My freind just told me her family has to pay $450 a month for Health Insurance!! I was shocked. I had know idea what a good deal we are getting!

    If we went thru the company to get avg health (deductible of 1,000, co pays a percentage) it would be 1,000 a month for the family...

    We don't we have weak insurance through an independent company, 150 a month I think.

      I don't know yet. DH just started a new job and we haven't gotten all the paperwork done yet.

      But, $450 isn't unheard of. My dad is self employed and can't find an independent policy for less than $1500 a month for my parents and little sister. Plus, they all exclude the pre-existing conditions. So, my parents don't have health insurance. I looked into getting a policy for myself only and it was going to cost me $175 a month. I'm 21 with no health issues at all. Thankfully, I can finally have insurance again through DH's company.

        As a single person, I pay:
        * $20/month premium
        * $1,000 annual deductible
        * $20 co-pay for PCP, $40 co-pay for 'specialists'
        * 20% of all other costs (excluding prescriptions)

          DH was paying ~$120 a month with his old company. That was for dental, vision & health. Health was just ~$85 a month for just him.

            We pay for our own health insurance. Currently just over $350 a month for the two of us.

            $60 a month for your family is fantastic.

                $675/month for 4 - pretty much no deductibles. $50 copays, but beyond that we don't pay much. All the preventive stuff is usually "free" or just a few bucks.

                Our plan went to $875 this year so we lowered our benefits. But not sure how long we can swing it. Not if it goes up 40% AGAIN in one year. The next tier down is the high-deductible plans, which don't look very viable to me. The deductibles are FAR more than the money we'd save on premiums, and with a family of 4 we just need one of us to get sick or in an accident or something to be financially ruined on the high-deductible plans. At least this way there are no surprises.

                Private insurance. Through my job to insure us all would be more though. In the $1k range, and that was something with much higher deductibles.

                A few years back though we were paying just $100/month for the 2 of us (same plan/benefits). It is totally insane.

                  $20 bucks a month for 1 person. But I just left a job where employees paid nothing for health insurance, even if you had a family of 5.

                    When mine hit $600 a month we dropped out. We have $5000 deductible, no co pay, no nothing. We had paid out over $90,000 the past 15 years and never collected one dime.
                    Since I have never been sick in my life (knock on wood), we are taking a chance and having none on me. I did pick up a policy on my husband for $10,000 deductible that will pay 60% over the deductible for $160 a month. Of course, that has more than doubled since I took it out last year.

                      We don't pay anything. As part of DH's raise, the company agreed to pay his premium (it was about $600 a month).

                        $72/month for a family

                        $10 for PCP's
                        $20 for specialists
                        $50 for ER
                        Prescriptions are 50%, which can be high but luckily we don't need continuous meds.

                        Dental is about 50% for everything on the basic plan, except cleanings and 1 x-ray are covered.

                        I feel lucky to have what we do.

                        I have seen older couples in my practice pay $800/month for 2 people in their 50's.

                          DH just got the insurance rates for his new job. Looks like we are going to be at $200 a month for Health, Dental & Vision.
