The official source of information which sometimes has new bulletins everyday is the website of the USCIS, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. It can be found at USCIS Home Page

If you are searching the internet for discussion of immigration matters, you can look for the term "INS," Immigration and Naturalization Service, which is the old name of USCIS and many people still call it that.

As a student, you will find that universities often have a few pages dedicated to issues of student visas, so I highly recommend that you look at the website of a university you are interested in. Large universities in the US will usually have a department for internatinal students where you can get help with any problems and get informal information from other students, especially at times when you may need a slight change in the type of visa you have. For example, if you are just completing your studies and have the prospect for employment in the US that will not be permanent, but serves to really complete your education in the area of your degree, then you must get a change in your visa to allow for paid "practical training."

Some immigration lawyers have informational websites that give information about the process. The information is free, but of course the lawyers hope you will hire them. Hiring a lawyer is not always necessary, I want to emphasize. This is especially true for student visas.

I advise that you find some immigration discussion forums as well. Earlier this year, I found an excellent one that was populated mostly by Indians. The information they shared with each other was very thorough, as far as I could tell. I looked at my bookmarks briefly to find it for you, but I'm afraid I couldn't locate it. I'll have to return with the link for you later, as I think I might have it bookmarked on a different browser than I am using today.

Hello, again. Here is the site which mentioned with good discussion groups for USA immigration matters

Immigration Help - Green card, visas, Visitor Medical Insurance

There is a lot of information, narration of experiences, tips, and printable forms there.

To be honest, I have not looked over the discussions regarding student visas, but the discussions regarding permanent residency and employment based visas have been excellent.
