A couple of months ago, my wife got a new cell phone. It was $79 with a $50 rebate. We mentioned to the clerk that in the past we've had trouble using the rebate prepaid VISA cards. She said just bring it in and they'll credit it to our bill.
So why do they bother? Just give me the darn credit on my account or charge me the reduced price to begin with.
I know. They figure a lot of people won't bother to send in the rebate. What a scam.

Plus even if you do send it in, it's money sitting in their books (presumably invested) until they give it to you.
Now I stay far away from products with rebate offers.
