  • "Plumbing" problem solved - Good news

I think I posted about this before I went on vacation (I'm home now, by the way). A couple of days before our trip, a leak showed up in our basement. We had the plumber come out and check everything. He wasn't able to locate the exact source but we were pretty sure it was coming from the shower drain in the master bathroom. The problem was the wall where the water actually showed up doesn't have any pipes in it, meaning the water had to be leaking somewhere else and running inside the wall/floor to that spot, making finding the leak much more difficult. He advised us to call a company that specializes in leak detection.

Fortunately, as it turns out, we weren't able to arrange that prior to leaving. Today, when we got home, I was checking on the fish tank. I keep five 1-gallon jugs of water next to the tank that we use for water changes and to top off the tank from evaporation. I went to pick up the one jug to fill the tank and the jug was all but empty. I know it had been full. Sure enough, there was a water stain under the jug. Apparently, it had sprung a leak and the water had drained through the floor and run down the basement wall. The location was just right.

Mystery solved. It did cost us $200 for the plumber to come out, but at least it won't cost hundreds more for the leak guy to come search the house.

Hurray, that's good news. You did not have to break into any walss to solve the problem.

I keep thinking I need to check on the jugs of water I have stored in an upstairs closet. This is definitely a reminder to me to do just that!

That is great! I am glad I have my own plumber/electrician, carpenter, handyman husband to fix things. (he only charges $30 an hour BTW)
