We just get a small town weekly paper and have for 23 years. The funny thing is, it is free and delivered to our door. But it never has coupons or any national news at all.

I don't subscribe to any newspapers, and I don't plan to. If I really want coupons, I can download them from online or get them from my grocery store. I read the news online (free!) and am not limited to one particular newspaper/perspective. Best of all, I don't have to hassle with recycling the paper itself -- and just doing my little bit to help the environment.

I read a newspaper everyday and have done so for years. Papers tend to give better coverage and analysis than television sound bites. But beyond that, I have found newspaper want ad especially those in the Sunday edition to be a good source for jobs. In fact before our retirement and relocation, my wife I and found work via that source. Also, coupons that I clipped from just one edition of the Sunday Los Angeles Times often paid for the monthly subscription by themselves.
As neatdesign pointed out, one can download coupons and read editions of newspapers on the Internet, but there are many features that are not carried on line. Above all, when it comes to portability and convenience, you can't beat the print version.Last edited by Exile; 08-16-2007, 10:09 PM.

Newspapers are good for young minds
I don't subscribe, but if money were no issue I would. I enjoy reading a paper copy. Currently I read the NY Times and Washington Post online. My university also provides free copies of the NY Times during the school year.
When I have kids, however, I will subscribe to a high quality paper like the NY Times. I grew up reading the newspaper simply because there was always one around. It helped improve my reading skills and piqued an interest in everything from science to politics at a young age. Had there been online newspapers when I was a kid/teen and I was left to my own devices, I sincerely doubt I would have sought out news online.Last edited by threebeansalad; 08-21-2007, 10:37 AM.
