  • Carpet - Stain resistant options

I am on the verge of purchasing new carpet. The stuff that came with the house is very stained from years of cat vomit. I have a steam vac but the stains still won't come out.

I am wondering if it is worth it to pay extra to buy a brand of carpet that has whole fiber stain resistance? Do the stains really come out if I buy this type of carpet? Does anyone have experience with this?

The brand that I am looking at is backed by a warranty that does not exclude pet stains or wine or grape juice. That's encouraging. The customer service dept supposedly will give recommendations to clean a stain and if that doesn't work, they will send a professional to remove the stain. With that kind of warranty, I'm thinking that the carpet manufacturer must be confident that their stain resistance actually works.

    Your thoughts?

Not sure exactly, but my neighbor has a ruined carpet...one of my kids spilled some juice on it, and it immediately soaked in, no time to run for a towel.

My house has the same color carpet looks the same kind, but kids spill juice, and it sortof sits on top...now after 5 years my carpet isn't quite as good, but it still has the whole liquid sitting on top not soaking in thing. (its the ground in mud and such that ruined it)

Anyway, if you can get a sample test of the carpet, pour wine on it and see what happens...ask em how it works and if you can 'retreat' the carpet to renew the resistance.

Thanks for the idea. They did tell me that I could take samples home to look at. I wonder if I can buy a sample and then try to stain it to help make my decision.

The first step is to perform a free carpet check. This inspection procedure will decide the type of cleaning technique that is most suitable for your home.

We are very happy with wood laminate. It is warmer and softer than it looks.
