I live in Massachusetts and grew up in New Hampshire - I have never heard it called a tag sale! We go out every Saturday and it's almost always a yard sale, occasionally a garage sale.

          is this a regionalism?

In Minnesota, we said garage sales, but I used to hear "rummage sales" too.

I think rummage sale has become the word for organizational sales, such as those at churches, synagoges, and involving more folks.

I like the British term: Jumble sale--since so much is jumbled!

Here they are called garage sales. They are usually in the front yard. I've heard yard sale too, but usually it's garage sale.

What a riot! I remember skiing at Wilmont and screaming that from the chair lift in highschool when some wiped out. Ha, ha, ha.

Anyways, it's a yard sale for us. Never heard of tag sale before internet forums.
Garage sale works as well... but serious most folks don't actually have it in a garage anymore.
