    Powerpoint still?

And which PDA (personal data assistant) do most business professionals use.

yup, still powerpoint since microsoft still dominates the corporate world. Better presentations should stay away from powerpoint since most people don't know how to make an effective powerpoint (reading word for word off the slides, having pointless slides just to make it longer, etc...)

Yes PowerPoint still dominates but as mentioned you have to be careful how you use it. Best to use it only for key points and graphics so you draw the groups attention to yourself and what your saying rather than people just trying to read every word. If people don't know what your going to say next they may be interested but if your reading your presentation word for work they'll probably be ahead of you reading it themselves.

Would also suggest to keep the animated effects to a minimum and give any sounds a miss!

        Presentations

If you are considering or even have made the switch to Mac, then Keynote which is part of iWork is also available (along with Powerpoint for Mac). It comes with Pages which is a word processor and costs a fraction of Microsoft suite that includes Powerpoint and is much easier and simpler to use. It is compatible with Powerpoint as well and obviously once a doc is finished, it can be pdf'd anyway so it can be seen with any viewer. I use Keynote exclusively and it is much quicker and more intuitive (and cheaper).

Did apple send you the check?

Anyways, there's also free PC alternatives to MS products such as OpenOffice.Org which work well with windows.

As far as what I've seen, everyone still uses Powerpoint around here. But I'm not technically in business, so I'm referring to people in academia, in scientific and clinical research, and in the legal fields. Oh, and in tech support, for new-hire training. So not necessarily fields that utilize the bleeding edge of technology.

As for PDAs, I haven't seen them fully used outside the computer geek and medical fields. Most of the law firms around here just use their Blackberries and Lotus Notes. And their legal assistants. My office (not a law firm) uses a combination of Outlook, handwritten lists, and my memory. From what I've seen of the pros I work with or associate with, handwriting is still the fastest way. Of course, most of them are post-30yrs old non-geek folk.

Just another chime in for PowerPoint.

As for PDAs, most of them are not capable of showing off powerpoint without additional hardware. And sadly, most of that hardware is becoming extinct.

Most people that I've seen bring their own laptop, in which case, you can use just about any OS and software you want, be it Windows, OSX, or Linux. You just need the laptop to have external out (and a VGA or maybe DVI cable to connect to the projector).

Of course, you'll still need a projector. But if you have that as well, then you won't need anyone else's hardware to set up your own presentations.

I still have Margi's presenter-to-go to work with my Treo phone. Powerpoint works well enough, albeit within certain limits. While it's neat to be able to show Powerpoints with your PDA, it's a discontinued niche product to be sure.

I just installed openoffice for my mom and it works just fine for what she is doing. As for PDA,s it all depends what you are using it for. Blackberry obviously it the defacto business pda due to its push email capabilities but of course its less useful if its not on a corporate network. I have a friend that does mobile handheld programming and she absolultely loves microsoft's windows mobile which you can get on a ton of PDA's. All depends what you want to use it for.
