    1. Pay yourself first
    2. Live below your means

First thing that popped in to my head when I saw the title of your post was "spend less than you make."

But really, Suze Orman's "Law" (with one slight variation) sums up my number one money rule best:

      People (and Pets!) First
      Then Money
      Then Things

Not that there is a "right" or "wrong" here, but yeah, these two points are basically what I am thinking too.

Ahem. Well, I can't imagine your hubby complaining about that though.

Wow, a lot of wisdom here. I hate redundancies, so i won't repeat what others have already said.

Always save a little each week, even if it is only coins in the coin jar.

Also, in the beginning developing the habit of saving is more important than the actual amount you are saving.

Granny's "Trinket or Treasure??" question when preparing to make a purchase and today's quote from Clason's 'Richest Man in Babylon' - "A part of all I earn is mine to keep."

Don't work for money. Make money work for you.

                          and also...

                          Don't make money your master.

I have this cute little scroll near my bookshelf with the following quote on it:

"Money can't buy happiness... but it can rent it for a long, long time."
