Here's another article my dad just sent me about, among other things, seafood imports from China:

WorldNetDaily: China's toothpaste contaminant has long, deadly, grisly history

Comon guys, half the stuff thats in our food in the US you can't even pronounce and probably don't even know why its in there. I agree whats going on over there is not right but the food we consume is no better.

Whos to say all that crap in our food is good for us. Just because its FDA approved doesn't mean squat. I always buy milk thats produced without the use of the growth hormone. So what? Its probably in other foods that I dont know about. Why is there the option if its FDA approved?

I wouldn't trust anything the FDA approves anyway as necessarily safe. They approved cigarettes and still refuse to withdraw the approval after proof it kills. They approved aspartame and MSG and MSG act-alikes that don't have to be labelled as MSG even though they act the same way in the body as MSG, and these substances are excitotoxins and neurotoxins. They approved Splenda even though there is proof it interferes with the working of the Thymus in children. Asprin would never have been approved for over the counter use if it were created today because it causes stomach and intestinal bleeding. There is reams of proof but the FDA is in the pocket of big business as much as anyone else, IMO.

Food safety is pretty much a crapshoot unless you grow or raise it yourself. The only thing we can really do is make sure our storage, cleaning and cooking preperations of food are at the highest standard.

Not that I would buy food imported from Asia either, especially after the pet food debacle.

Aspirin is a wonder drug for MANY people. It helps prevent clotting. I took it for years as a child for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. I was sick for months before diagnosis. Once I got on the aspirin I never had a problem again. I've never had any stomach problems from it. If you suspect someone is having a heart attack you should give them an aspirin (it greatly improves the odds of surviving). Aspirin is also often recommended for heart attack prevention if someone has had a previous heart attack (or is high risk). My dad had a stroke and was advised to take a low dose aspirin for prevention (that was 23 years ago - so far so good). Aspirin is one of the best medications to have ever been marketed for many conditions - you won't find a drug that hasn't produced some side effects in someone. Birth control pills aren't for everyone, but I've been benefiting from them for years. Should they have never been allowed because they can produce side effects in the minority of cases?

Well i agree with what many said, i certainly wouldn't rely on the FDA to tell us what's safe.

And yes, aspirin is a wonder drug, probably one of the safest and most versatile. You wont' get bleeding ulcers unless you take it on an empty stomach with no water.

DebbiL--I said for over the counter use, not at all, on Asprin. Because of the side-effects it should be a prescription drug, not one that you can just walk in and buy. Yes, it has many good benefits. That is not what I was debating.

I still disagree. I think it is perfectly fine for over the counter use by almost anyone.

You are free to disagree. But that is why in my original post I put IMO, In My Opinion.
