I have been griping in my blog. For the last 14years+ I have mailed my deposits to my bank out of town. Sometimes every few days (when I was self-employed). Never had a problem and when we moved a couple of hours away everything would still arrive the next day pretty much no matter what. I know people always thought I was crazy to mail deposits but with such a long track record of no problems, so what.

Then about a year ago deposits started taking 2-3 days. Some things in the mail would disappear for weeks. I finally got a local bank a few months back because it was just too unpredictable. The mail has gone noticably downhill in the last year or so, here in Sacramento.

In the city I could still mail deposits in a day pretty guaranteed, to a more local bank, but always the offchance it will disappear for a week or 2, so no more.

I was doing some e-baying a few weeks back and a couple of things I bought took 2 weeks, as well as a couple of things I sold. I told everyone to check the postmark and I knew the mail was just really slow. When things take weeks, it's the norm now.

We also have always had horrible service at my work. I never mail anything remotely important (anything more than a survey or something) from there because it will dissapear for a month. IT has always been like that but they eventually traced a mail theft ring to our post office and I am sure that explains much. They stole some of our clients checks, washed them, when they traced it to the post office it explained a lot!

We also have saturday service in the spring and have had horrible customer service in that regard. For years we have mail pick up/drop-off during tax season and this year I heard reception arguing a lot with the post office that no one showed up half the time and it was never a problem before. They definitely seem under-staffed.

I could go on and on...
