    I see your point. Two years ago I finally bit the bullet and bought some good kitchen knives. What a difference they make! However, I treat them very gently so they will last. Wash them by hand and no dishwasher!

      That's another good example. Good knives are worth every penny and should last a lifetime. We got Henckel Eversharp knives as an engagement gift. They were good, but not terrific. Over the years, we've gradually replaced them with "real" knives. Again, these get used daily and are excellent. Yes, they were expensive, but well worth it.
