  • Questions on CFL bulbs

I'm planning to switch to CFL bulbs the next time I need to buy lightbulbs, but there are a couple of things I was wondering about.

Can a CFL bulb work in a 3-way switch lamp (the ones that go 50, 100, 150 watts)? Do they make CFL bulbs that output the equivalent of a 150 watt bulb? Our living room is just too dim when lit at the 100 watt level, so we like to turn the lamps up all the way.

Will CFL work ok if the light is on a dimmer switch?

There are CFLs that work with dimmer switches and 3-way switches, but not all do, so be sure to read the package and pick ones that do.

There are CFLs with 150-watt equivalent output. They will be 30-52 watt CFLs.

The EnergyStar website has a very good information page on CFLs.
