  • Garage sale questions

    Hi Gang.. New member here.

We are planning to move and will have our first garage sale. My question is about pricing electronic equipment.

Among the usual household items, we have several good, working color TVs from 12" up to 19" and several PC Monitors from 15" t0 17" plus a lot of associated cabling.

Are there guidelines as how to fairly price the electronic stuff?

    Many thanks!

Larry, you can google garage sales and you will find plenty of places that give you ideas about what to expect. Make sure on that day, that you have an extension cord so that others can see that it works. It's always good to play a little music. Some people who are selling stereo equiptment will normally play it. It's also a good idea that if you have one of those quick pop up covers to use it for shade. You won't be sorry. There's a million and one ideas out there. Good luck!

If you are willing to go through a little extra effort, you will probably get more money from listing electronic equipment and furniture on your local Craig's List than from selling it in the garage sale. I have found that garage sale customers are really looking for the rock-bottom steal, where Craig's List buyers will generally pay about 50% of what a similar new item costs. If your garage sale is a couple of weeks away, you could try listing on Craig's List first, and put anything that doesn't sell into the garage sale.

Zetta: That's a great idea. I have a chandeleir and the wall sconces to match (almost brand new) and I want to list that on Craig's list. Do you always need to show a photo of it?

You don't have to have a photo, but it helps.
