  • Penske Truck Rentals - Any Bad Experiences?

I'm ready to reserve the rental truck for our September move.
Looked at U-Haul, Budget, and Penske. [Ryder doesn't offer 1-way rentals.]

I'm leaning strongly towards Penske. They offer the best deal, especially with the 22% discount (12% AAA member + 10% for booking on-line).
Also, I've not heard anything bad about them (but have heard bad things about UHaul and have had a couple bad experiences with them myself).

Has anyone had any BAD experiences with Penske?

Also, any other truck rental companies I have overlooked?

    TIA for any feedback.

    Penske is Good!

I got the same deal for my mother that you are considering and we were very happy with our decision to go with Penske. I hope you have the same experience.

I've found that having your items shipped by freight truck is less expensive than renting a rental truck and putting gas in it. Depends how far you are going of course, a cross country move really pays off to get items shipped, but moving a state away renting a truck is cheaper.

I realize it's not exactly on topic, but I have a Uhaul story...or two. The last time I used them, I rented a 17' footer. We were unable to unload as quickly as we had hoped, so we had to keep the truck an extra day. They were kinda tight on trucks so they said an extra day was fine as long as we had it back by 7pm that next day... which was an extra 2 hours.

The problem was that the truck had a leak... right behind the cab, where we put the most fragile stuff, namely artwork. Once we finally reached that front part of the truck, we discovered the leak... luckily it only damaged a few boxes, none of the materials inside were soaked.

However, when we returned the truck, we told them of the problem and they only charged us for one day's rental (we had the truck for three).

Also, any other truck rental companies I have overlooked?
        Have you considered Pods?
