Does anyone have any experience with buying tax defaulted property? Who do i contact? iv asked tax accessors, and sheriff offices here in my town but they just give me the run around. and i cant find any tax forums on google.
Lots of houses that have been seized by my city due to non-payment of taxes. Sometimes the taxes owed are tiny amounts and for that amount you can become a "home" owner. Almost always, the houses are long-abandoned, looted for their valuable copper pipes, sagging and collapsing in everyway possible. However, I do know 2 families who have bought such houses and put a ton of work into them. Our city agency which handles the sales is called Land Redevelopment Authority. If you are in a big city, there may be a similar agency whose sole purpose is to deal with tax seizure houses. In a rural county, if your tax assessor is of no help, I beleive I would ask an elected legislator how to identify such houses. Is there a local newspaper that publishes "sheriff's sales" or "sheriff's auctions?" The newspaper might be able to direct you to the info.
I just remembered I knew a woman who bought such a rural property. The house was not quite finished, but it was livable and the things that were left to be done were largely cosmetic and she could handle them herself. She got a house for $11,000 and it changed her life. No one else even bid on the house.

GA's tax deed sale process is a little more complicated than most from what I hear. However, with a 20% interest rate and only a 1 year redemption period, that's not bad at all. Contact your local county treasurer and they should be able to give you more information.
