    nanamom, i had to look it up too the first time i saw one! they're not popular at all in america, and the one we 'ate' we found at an international farmer's market.

    for those that are curious, a durian looks like a large coconut, only minus the 'hairy' skin and add a bunch of dull half inch spikes over the entire hull. sounds appetizing, huh? cut it open and the inside looks vaguely like a brain made out of vanilla pudding. the thing smells like a cross between rotton onions, bad BO and stinky feet.

    at least, that's what it smelled like to me... sadly, that's also what it tasted like to me!!! we triple bagged that baby and could still smell it in the trash, so we had to keep it out on the back porch until trash day. bluh!
