I received a flyer from the local Tour Bus Company. They are having a trip to the Smithsonian. A one day trip for $66. Probably will be about a 4 hour trip to get there. Leave early and come home late. I am taking my 2 sons ages 9 and 11. Thought this would be very educational as well as fun. I have never been there either and am looking foward to it. A little worried about getting carsick as I have that tendency but planning to take some dramamine. Anyway, they offer many such tours and it seems like a fairly economic way to travel without all the fuss of driving yourself, finding parking, etc. Do you enjoy these kind of trips?

I personally have never gone on a bus trip as DH and I really like to explore without an itinerary and so forth. However, several members of my family go on them (short and extended trips) all the time and love them. I also really like the Smithsonian, it's a great way to spend the day and although is educational, just has a lot of fun/neat stuff.

My husband and I love these bus trips! Especially when they take you places that are a pain to park at...We live in Illinois and recently took a trip to Chicago's Field Museum to see the King Tut exhibit. They stopped for a break on the way there, they got us there and let us off in front of the museum, picked us up in front of the museum, stopped for dinner (on our own dime, of course), and brought us back to where we had parked. It was far more relaxing than doing the driving, parking, and having to worry about getting in. We've taken a trip to the Fox Theatre in St. Louis and found it economical and easy -- they get the tickets and drove us there. It's also a nice way to visit with other people and helps your kids learn to socialize with people they normally wouldn't see. I hope you have a great time!

We've taken Starr Tours to NYC to see a Broadway show. I don't mind driving to NYC, but the bus trip is nice. They drop you off at a restaurant for lunch, then pick you up and drive you right to the theater. After the show, we had some free time in town and then got driven home. It only cost us a little bit more than driving ourselves but was a nice change of pace.
I don't think I'd be happy on a long trip, like an overnight run, but for a couple of hours it is just fine.Steve

I don't mind day trips at all. It's usually a relaxing and convenient way to travel.
I've also take "tour" trips where a bus drives us around between destinations but we stay at hotels overnight. That worked out well too.
I don't think I'd do well on overnight or multi-day trips, though. I can't really sleep in a bus.
