That link is awesome! I laughed the entire way through.

I'm something of a buffet menace myself, and don't think many could top me... but this man is a virtuoso!

Thing is though, this guy is trying to, as he puts it, "maximize your eating power", whereas my goal is to minimize the price I pay for food whenever I eat out.

As such, although buffet is a definite option, I basically drink as much as I want, eat whatever I want, and I don't bring a book or the fat pants.

Oh, and I know I really shouldn't do this, but I also don't eat lunch or breakfast. Again, trying to keep food prices low. * braces for a lecture from someone like beanie *

Hmm.... I really should eat healthier....

          my healthy buffet eating tips:

at places like ryan's, eat all the broiled salmon and fresh spinach salads you can fit in. at about $6 per lb for either salmon filets or fresh spinach, it's fairly easy to eat $10 worth

the ryan's here charges something like $3.99 per pound if you want to graze the buffet with a to go box. salmon steak with a spinach salad and baked potato for $5? DEAL!

Re: Maximizing value at all-you-can-eat buffets

I used to work at a buffet we had people who would come in early and stay all day ;-)

If you got the time and care to invest that much time ,I say go for it
buying buffet for one is a great deal but buying for the family is usually not we pay 40 to get us all 4 in .

It's a great once in a while treat but that money would be better spent eating at home as 40 dollars for one meal,

even if we could eat 4 meals worth of food we will still have to eat the next day and still be out the 40 bucks

I'm surprised the blogger didn't give take-home strategies. Somehow I can see him wearing a jacket and stuffing meat in the big pockets

Re: Maximizing value at all-you-can-eat buffets

I do have a jacket with big pockets, but I'd rather they not smell like beef for weeks after a visit to the buffet.

I'm sure you're just joking anyway, but to reiterate: I'm totally against sneaking stuff out anyway because it's completely against buffets' rules. Getting the most for your money within the rules is fair play, but breaking the rules just means higher prices for those who follow them.

Agree. And it's just tacky, IMHO. I thought someone who planned when to eat, drink, and poop would have also covered the exit strategy. But please let's not re-start the thread about sugar and ketchup packets...

That was hysterical! It's a pretty good blog in general--lots of entertaining and useful reading.

I had to quit going to buffets. We've all got our weaknesses and I simply lose all reason and control when faced with steam tables filled with refined carbs.

I won't eat at a buffet. I use to work for a restaurant and I know how long that food has been sitting, besides I don't eat enough to make it worth my while.

I thought the blog was incredibly amusing, especially since I have some friends who keep telling me how much of a deal they get eating there...they go there for lunch and fill up. I keep telling them my mom was the queen of a good deal...she would go to the buffet right before the lunch prices changed to the dinner prices so they would then putting out the dinner meats! She and her friend would get seats close up, (sorry, Nick) so they could watch what everyone was taking and felt they had quite the floor show while they dined.
