  • Have you seen "Feedthepig.com"?

I've noticed some billboards around town that have sayings like, "If that money is burning a whole in your pocket, you need more than some new pants." and then has "feedthepig.com". I looked around the site. I guess it's been started by some cpas to try and get folks to save money. Anyone else seen it? I haven't spent a lot of time looking through everything.

      Re: Have you seen "Feedthepig.com"?

Hehe, thanks for sharing the link. I'll have to take a look at it some more later, because I'm interested... and I'm their target age group anyway.

This reminds me of something funny that I saw from a tax preparation company. Their slogan was something like, "We file your returns faster than you can spend it!" I'm not exactly sure what that's suppose to mean, but... I admit it's true! I'd immediately plunk it down my student loans though. Still, it's kind of sad if you think about what they're most likely implying.

In any case, I'm not sure if I'll even get a return.... I still have to sort out that mess between my ex and I.

(Update: Ok, I just watched one of their videos, and let me just say that I'm a bit perturbed by this. I see where they're going with this, but a regular piggy bank would've been good enough for me thanks. )

        Re: Have you seen "Feedthepig.com"?

It looks like an interesting site but I already have this site and a few others that have given me all the help and moral support I need to get out of debt and start saving.

Yes, professional organizations of CPAs are trying to target the ads - and PSAs - to the 25-34 age group, trying to get them to save more.

I actually think the pig is creepy. LOL. But their intentions are good.

" Feed the Pig is a new national public service campaign from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and The Advertising Council to encourage the 40 million Americans age 25 to 34 to take control of their personal finances. The campaign is a new component of the 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy effort, which offers free tools and resources to help Americans manage their finances through every stage of life.

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional association of CPAs, with approximately 330,000 members in business, industry, public practice, government and education. The AICPA sets the ethical standards for the profession and theauditing standards for private companies, non-profit groups, and federal, state and local governments.

The Advertising Council has produced thousands of PSA campaigns addressing the most pressing social issues of the day. The Ad Council aims to foster tremendous positive change by raising awareness, inspiring action and saving lives.

Yes, I agree. They need to fire the marketing agency who came up with that one, and start up an open fire for a pig-picking.

I thought the site's Lunch Savings Calculator was interesting.

i really dislike the pig-guy they use in their commercials: reminds me of the figure used in the 'energy hog' commercials (same concept guy dressing up in pig makeup). since the looks are so similar, i can imagine some people being left with a negative connotation even without knowing why...

omg, the first thing that catches my eye is the pig face complete with the pink suit. Why didn't they feature a picture of the piggy coin box instead. I'm sure when they say "feed the pig", they mean feed the coin box.
