Re: How do you work in exercise into your daily routine?

I try to squeeze in a 15-30 minute exercise DVD 2-3x's per week while DS is napping. I keep 5 lb handweights in the living room, and do an arm routine when DS is playing by himself..I try to do pushups and situps then too.

Occasionally DS will let me hold him while I walk on the treadmill, sometimes it's 2 minutes, sometimes it's 15...I take what I can get!

A lot of outdoor walking when the weather is nice.

I walk, march or jog in place to disco music. My cable tv has music stations I tune in to to do this. Sometimes I'll play the radio or old cd's. I also have an exercise bike I sometimes use. Sometimes I walk the mall or the neighborhood.

What great ideas! I've found that you really need to figure out something that works for you. For me, it is a really good book! I have an elliptical in the basement, and I like to read while I work out, about 30 minutes. If the book is really good, the time flies!! And if I want to read some more, I have to go back down there and workout again!

Usually DH and I go to the gym as soon as I get home (he gets home before me). If I know we won't be able to go that night, I walk during lunch.

I do stretches at work -- what the heck, my coworkers know I'm weird anyway. I also go for a twenty-minute walk, especially if there's sunlight. Then I come home and pick up junk from the floor. I'll walk up and down stairs carrying laundry. If it's daylight and not raining and not freezing I may even bend and stretch to get at garden weeds.

I am in the process of waking up earlier in the morning and do dvd workouts such as pilaties and some tae bo for kicks.

Prior to to this, I would walk fast around my work building at lunch.

I go to the gym after dinner. It's tough but I do it. I usually work out 5 days a week. I work part time but only have 1 hour inbetween leaving work and getting the kids and that isn't enough time for my workouts. I generally get to the gym between 7 and 8 p.m. Sometimes I don't want to go but I force myself too. I always feel good after I've worked out but let me tell you getting there is sometimes hard.

After school I either hit the treadmill at home or venture out for a hike/bike ride. I've been sitting all day and going nuts if I don't get movement in. For a while after I had an injury (Car accident), I got out of shape and it was hard to start again. On weekends it's also a great time to do hiking/kayaking or biking.

My routine is to get dressed for the gym in the morning, drive the kids to school and head to the gym before anything else gets in the way. My kids could ride the bus but I don't tend to get going if I don't have them to get out the door as well. Summer is the hardest routine for me to get into. Last year I didn't do anything...and it was a big mistake. I need to come up with a plan for this summer.
