Every few minutes I am getting a call that consists only of beeps, all of the same tone, evenly spaced. Sounds like the beeps of an answering machine that uses tape and has a bunch of messages waiting. Not the ugly, screechy fax message noise that I'm familiar with. Must be some sort of automated dialer, eh? I can't disconnect the caller by hanging up on them. I'm expecting an important call, so I can't just disconnect my phone for a while.

It is a fax machine...it's what they do searching for a tone before sending the horrible icky sound. If they don't get the beep back in return they don't send the icky noise. Don't what to tell except to block the number if you can. Most faxes try three times and then give up. At least our does. Best of luck.
