  • would you...if you could?

Meet people from this forum? Purely hypothetical (no plans for a meet-up here). I just found myself wondering the other day if people enjoy this forum so much in part due to the anonymity of it. If you had the chance to get together with people here, would you?

Personally, even though I prefer to keep my blog separate from those IRL, I wouldn't mind meeting people here. You all already know everything about me anyway

I like every one here and enjoy reading all the blogs but I also like the anonymity of it all, so I am torned I guess

Oh, sure! I'm normally a very private person (and operate accordingly), but I actually wouldn't mind meeting some people on here in real life. You've been mostly a friendly bunch, and so far, I can't see how a meeting would impact me negatively just yet... so I don't see why not.

In fact, seeing as how several regulars on here from the Southeast (USA), I'm slightly surprised that one hasn't been done already.

        Re: would you...if you could?

Let me answer this way: I am very active on another board (disboards.com) particularly on their Budget Board where we also discuss a lot of personal finance things. In fact, quite a few people from there have come over here. Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to meet numerous people IRL from that site. Since it is primarily a Disney board, we arrange DIS meets in Disney World. We even have a signal, of sorts, to identify other DIS members who we come across in the parks.

I'd be perfectly happy to attend a SavingAdvice meet if there was one in my area.

I like this board because there are many like-minded people here which can sometimes be hard to find in this consumption-driven society. I like the fact that even when people disagree the tone (usually) stays very respectful.

So, sure, I'd be happy to meet the people on the board, especially if it were an event devoted to what brought us here ... saving & investing money.

I've met people from other forums before, so I don't see how this one would be any different.

Where would we meet? It would have to be some place that accepts coupons.

I've met people from another board I'm active on (actually a subboard thereof, where we tended to forge closer bonds). It was a positive experience and I would do it again.

That being said, I prefer to keep a sharp distinction between online communities and my real life. I would have to think about whether I wanted to do a meet or not.

This is a tough one as I very much like the anonymity of the boards. Hmmmm!!!

Dude, we've all seen pictures of you in bicycle tights.

I don't know how much anonymity there is left after such a horror.

do i smell a potluck brewing?

i think i would probably do it, if nothing else but for the sheer curiosity to know what folks are like offline

i would love to do it. I am on a local forum. we started having a gathering about 2 years ago. we got together for Christmas and plan to have a potluck in June. we have people that come from florida to attend. We "girls" meet for lunch every month or so and are going to do that this monday at noon. Guys are invited but most have to work.
We can have a cook out on my deck over the creek!!
It is so funny to see what people look like. You imagine them as being so different. Everyone will surprise me, except Paul. We have all seen you!!

Ours would be the key phrase: "Separate checks, please!" LOL.

Or perhaps we could wear SavingAdvice t-shirts.

The other board has t-shirts. I wear it once or twice while I'm at Disney World. I've had a few people from the board come up and introduce themselves that way. Maybe we need to talk to Jeffrey about creating a t-shirt.
