I have an appointment with the ss office tomorrow morning to get my new ss card in my new name (I tried to do it by mail, but they returned the photocopy of my marriage license, saying they had to have the 'actual document'-the one that is framed above my dresser, which i am not about to mail to them-it would get lost with my luck and never be returned).
Meanwhile, already planning my trip there, my ex husband calls yesterday and tells me he got approved for SS disablility, and got a back check. With it came a letter stating that if he has minor children, they can get it also, regardless of if the children live with him or with me. The letter told him to call the ss office for more info.
Since I am already going tomorrow, I thought I would check into this. I will have to leave here around 7:30 to get to my appointment on time (87 minute drive), so they will not be open yet for me to call and ask them what I need to bring for my girls.
I know I will need his SS#, and most likely their birth certificates and maybe a copy of the divorce papers stating I get custody. Does anyone else know what I need to take?? I don't want to have to make another trip if I can do it all correctly the first time.
