  • Too Much Stuff!

I am just getting tired of so much stuff! Seems like the stuff comes in faster than it goes out. Who needs all this "stuff"? I sent alot to Goodwill and will continue to do so. But, I was shopping today and the amount of stuff is overwhelming. I really don't want to buy anymore Christmas things as we already have everything we need.

it does come in faster than it goes out... i'm been making an extra effort lately to get rid of our stuff and it's still everywhere... i'm pretty happy as i just got rid of 2 boxes of stuff... i had green decorations left over from a party and gave them away to someone as "x-mas decorations".... i'd love to get some more of these things out of the house...
and yes, i am one of those people that doesn't want stuff i'll have to dust for x-mas... as where we live is small and already crowded...

"stuff" has been overwelming me also lately. I have two little girls - ages 1 and 3 - and they have so much 'stuff' it is taking over the house. They are totally spoiled by both sets of grandparents (I am definately at fault also). I had the toughest time coming up with christmas lists this year - They don't need anything (especially the baby) and I didn't want them to get anything else that will take over the house. I put on both of their lists $$ for college, but I doubt if either grandparent will do that.

I have definately become a purger in the last few months - if it is broke - it gets tossed. If it was something I didn't like or we have a duplicate of - it goes to goodwill.

I agree. I just came from a lady's home and she had so much christmas stuff there wasn't an inch of room to put anything else. She had santas lined up and down the room, hundreds of them.

Apparently, I'm a pro at getting rid of things. We just moved a couple of months ago from a home we owned for 9 years and we have to dd's- 6 and 9. The movers couldn't believe how little things we had for living there for 9 years. I'm a big believer in donating things...don't forget to make a list of what you've donated so you can take a tax deduction!! I have a bin in my basement for goods to donate and a clipboard, paper and pen hanging just above it. Good luck in your purging!!

I thought I was pretty good at the less is more thing until I started to pack for the move we are making next week. I am amazed at the size of the pile I am getting rid of instead of moving.

Stuff is what I have too much of. I need to buy less and clutter free my life!

My daughter keeps getting upset with me because she's been asking what I want for Chanukkah and there is really nothing that I have any strong desire to add to my belongings. I'd rather get nothing than something that I don't want or need that will just take up more space.

Might want to come with a simple idea or you might just get something you don't want or need. Something disposable, like a favorite food or drink. My dad just wants a stocking cap to wear on his balding head while he sleeps.

As we are blessed this holiday season with gifts we should find a number of items in our home to donate or toss equal to the number of gifts we receive.

jriessel, I have already told my daughters when I have grandkids I am not buying them a bunch of crap, but am going to do exactly what you want, money for college or stocks or something. I feel your pain.

Actually, I already did that in part. We were at a holiday craft bazaar and I told her to buy me a decorative shopping list for the fridge. It will last for a few months until we use up all the pages.

                      I hadn't thought of food. That's a good idea.

Another idea might be to talk to her about something she could do for you. It could be relieving you of a chore you don't particularly enjoy, making a special meal for you, or doing a special project at the synagouge in your honor. She could make a coupon or certificate explaining it if she wants something tangible to give you.

I've got the same "stuff" problem. With immediate family it's OK since we exchange lists. I can usually come up with a few little things I would like. For extended family and friends it's harder. It usually winds up being more generic gifts like candles and decorative doo-dads. Most of those wind up regifted or in the Goodwill pile.

I get the generic gifts from the extended family also - we don't burn candles in our house and I have enough bath and body stuff to last me a year.

I wish oh how I wish my husband where at this point!

he is still stuck on the same pack rat mentality his mother gave him..but slowly we are working on it, he no longer vents when I toss anyway.

last year he complained that I got rid of ornaments...when he insisted on a tree way to small for what we had!

right now he has a stack of games he has never played..and are outdated graphically that he will prolly NEVER play..but don't you worry he is keeping them....

On the other hand he agreed to get rid of a broken dremel, and some misc books no one wants to read. Not all..but it is a start.
