Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
Two in particular. They are both complainers. One complains about every little sniffle, sneeze, body ache, weather related temperature fluctuation, etc. The other one has control issues so she complains about every little mistake in files and paperwork she comes across and always wonders loudly about why people can't do things the right way. She also tries to institute new procedures on how to do things better so these mistakes won't happen as frequently which adds another freaking layer of detail on the work we do which is already extremely detail-oriented due to the nature of the work.
There's one other but she's not so bad, I just try to avoid lengthy conversations with her. She over-analyzes everything so when you talk to her she tells you the exact thought process step by step of what went on in her mind.
Oh gosh, there's one more I just thought of. A ditzy older lady with control issues who attempts to push work off on others. We've learned to be very blunt with her, its the only way with her.

Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
I work with one person who is very set in her ways and basically insists on doing everything her way. Unfortunately, many of her ways are incorrect. As a result, some things are consistently done wrong, other things aren't done at all, and some things I have learned I need to do myself even though it is really her job to do them.
For example, we fill out a lot of forms for patients and we always keep a photocopy of the forms in the patients' charts. I noticed that she didn't always copy all pages of the form, so we were left with an incomplete copy. So now I copy my own forms.
I also get annoyed by sloppiness at the office, particularly in our kitchen area. People drip coffee or have something spill in the microwave and don't bother to wipe it up. Another pet peeve is when someone takes out a full trash bag and doesn't put a new bag into the can right away. Or when people drop paper clips and are too lazy to bend over and pick them up. All of my coworkers are able-bodied folks. How come I'm always the one picking the paper clips up off the floor?Steve

Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
I work with some people that don't take ownership for anything. If a product is broken so our users can't work (I work in IT), or if something you are responsible is making someone else's job harder and a small change will save lots of time in the end, just do it. Don't say 'it's not my job." Or "I don't know how to do that, so I'm not gonna." Look it up on the internet, look it up in a book, ask someone, but don't just throw it over your shoulder for someone else to catch!

Anyways, there's one girl in particular that kind a hate me in some way, I've been in this job for two months already and I've seen her get mad at me plenty of times and giving me dark stares like I'm an idiot. When something wrong happen at work and I didn't do it, she's always looking at me like I did it. Everytimes she's around, I lose confidence in what I do and I make mistakes. I know she's trying to help but with her temper, I don't want to ask her for help or anything because I know she will yell at me.
it will get better, just try to relax and keep trying to do better..even when no one is looking at you review your own performance and see where you would improve.

I am with cptacek, I also work in IT and work with several people who won't take ownership of anything. Even people in charge of whole departments and divisions get so wrapped up in policies and procedures that nothing at all gets done.

Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
The LOUD talker drives me crazy! Whenever she is on the phone she has to scream so that everyone else in the office can hear that she is on an 'important' phone call. She also talks loud whenever we are in a group situation.

Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
We have one employee who loves to go through everyone's desk and office. She never takes anything, just seems to lke to find out random details about people, then she'll casually drop them into conversation as if somehow she just "figured" it out on her own.
People have quit over her behavior, however she has been with the firm for over 20 years and basically has no life outside the firm. Every time she drops one of her little hints she has been snooping I just look right at her and say "Really, where did you find that out?" She doesn't like direct confrontation and usually backs down, but it ANNOYING!!!!!!!

Re: Do You Work With Annoying People?
I work in a very small office (3 others) so getting along with everyone is essential. I had occasional problems with someone who worked here before (she was easily irritated and took things very personally) but she has since left the company.
I have had my share of problems with co-workers, but this job now is probably the best i've ever had in that regard. The approach here is one based on trust that everyone knows what their job is and you have the autonomy to get it done.
