Steve - Maybe you could try this: If the car dealer has a repair shop, parts dept, etc., then the repair shop and parts dept. almost certainly take CCs. Maybe you could argue that because the repair and parts arms of the dealership accept a CC, they can't refuse a CC for payment on a car. I have no idea if this would work, but it may be worth a try.
I'm sure the reason they don't want to accept a CC for such a large purchase is because they will pay a whopping fee to the CC company (and they won't make anything from your financing the purchase at Car Dealer Credit Company).
