I've never had one, but then again, I can never remember having the flu, so I don't see the point for me. I don't get them for my kids either (ages 1 and 3). My father does get one, as he is in his 70's and it would hit him a lot harder if he were to get sick.

I will get my flu shot on 12/20. My doctor said the flu usually rages around Feb to Apr and recommends the shot in Dec as opposed to Oct and Nov. I get one every year but my husband doesn't.

i've never had the flu, nor have i ever had a flu shot. i'm lucky to have a strong constitution, as it were. regardless, though, since there are often shortages i wouldn't feel right getting one at my age knowing that there are seniors, children, and invalids who would all need the vaccination more than i would.

I have gotten flu shots for the last several years, except last year, when the poor supply prevented my being able. I would have preferred to wait until a bit later to get my shot for the same reason Joyjoy mentions, but I got it the first week of November because it was available. That should cover me best until just before the usual period of our flu season. I am considered high risk and so is husband. I take it seriously.

Overall I am not sure why they are recommended to the general population. LEaves less for those who truly need it.

I have had docs for and against. Some studies were out last year that they didn't help in the least, maybe that is what they saw on the news.

For the young and old I overall think they probably help. WHatever the studies say I am glad my mother and my grandma got flu shots, my mom with her health problems (the flu sent her to the hospital twice last year) and my grandma in old age.

As healthy and young adults dh and I Are not getting shots. Neither are the kids. Our 18-=month old is iffy but we decided against it. Our ped generally did not recommend it since our kids were not in care. This year my older son is in preschool and brings home more germs, but the ped still didn't seem to concerned since the younger one stays home, so we skipped it.

also be aware that folks allergic to eggs generally cannot get a flu shot.

It seems as though everytime I get a flu shot, I get the flu that much worse. I know it can cause you to feel a bit sick in the days following the shot, but I always get the flu when I get the shot and usually don't get it if I skip it. Go figure.

I usually get the flu every year.. Still trying to figure out how not to get it so often.

The last two years I got the flu shot offered from my work. I was so very sick the next day with shivering, muscle pains and so on. and then to get the flu for the second time in a ayer. This happened two years in a row.

I was happily to opt out of the flu shots this year.

My X husband got his shot (free) from work every year until we got married and he found out that I had never gotton one and never intended to get one. He got very macho on me and decided that if I didn't need one and didn't get sick then he being so much healthier and in better shape than I am wouldn't need one. That year he was incredibly sick. Seems his natural resistance was no longer there since he hadn't given it any practice for so many years.
