I have a feeling that people who tend to have a lot of clutter also tend to be disorganized with their finances. So I don't think that clutter is costing so much as it is indication of other things awry...

Clutter does cost you. It certainly cost when you buy things you did not realize you already had. How many little crappy knick-knacks and do-dads grace your environment? What about the stuff you bought thinking that you would need it? Ever buy things you needed and then found out just the opposite?

I believe Thoreau said, "Simplify, simplify, simplify". In the end you may find, paradoxically, that less really is more.

Not only does my husband complain but I will go and buy something I already have.

            NOTHING.

Clutter costs me nothing because it doesn't bother me. If I can't find something I would do something productive instead of buying new stuff or trying to find it at all costs.

Unless something is critical, I usually don't worry about it if it goes missing. I just try to do without it for a while until the item resurfaces (which generally takes less than two weeks).

The one exception is Scotch tape. I can never have enough Scotch tape (generic brand, of course).
