  • shipping insurance question

I feel like a dummy for not knowing the answer to this, but it has never come up before!

I purchased a teapot off E-bay for my MIL's birthday next week. Shipping insurance was mandated by the seller. When it arrived, it was broken. I glued it back together and the break is still noticeable, although only if you are looking for it. I decided to still give it for a gift as my MIL would still appreciate it.
However, I got to thinking about the insurance. Does the fact that insurance was purchased mean that I could get reimbursed for the damage? What about the fact that I alreday glued it back together - is it too late? What is the process? The teapot cost $14.00 with $6.25 shipping/insurance and insurance cost $1.30 (I think that's $0-50 worth of coverage?). I'm just trying to figure out if this is worth pursuing - I did contact the seller and they told me that they will mail me the receipt if I need it.
    Thanks for any advice!

If the shipper was USPS, you need to fill out form 1000. Link: How to file insurance claims You're going to have to show evidence of damage and value of the item...

Thank you! I've printed the forms and will look them over. Does anyone know how I would prove the worth of a flow blue teapot? I wonder if they would accept the price I paid as an indication of worth...

Yes, the value of the item for insurance purposes is the amount you paid for it.
