[QUOTE=tinapbeana]boy, am i the only person not keeping a list? QUOTE]

nope, we don't have a list either... i was just posting about what i am giving to DH and what i told him i wanted... nobody else ask for a list and we wouldn't know what to put on it anyways...

      Re: Gifts: practical or wishful?

While i do like to get wishful things....mainly gadgets and the likes, I soon grow bored with them and wish that I had asked for practical presents or something I can get use out of, like clothes or tools that will help me with my everyday tasks!

So my advice when asking for something wishful is to think twice and ask yourself if you really need it.

        Re: Gifts: practical or wishful?

I don't have a list, but if someone asked, it'd be items that would be a combination.

For example, I don't like my kitchen rugs-the colors are to distracting. I'd love a dark blue rug for in front of the sink, but I wouldn't buy it for myself as it is not exactly a need. If I saw one for a buck at a garage sale I'd spring for it, but I wouldn't spend money. That's a luxury and practical, right?

Same on small plastic ware (8 oz or less), dish towels-plain yellow or blue and cotton, some office supply stuff, a simple wood bookcase, etc.

No one I know hits the forums so this post can't be co0nstrued as a hint!

lol... that's the kind of stuff we look for at garage sales too... we need a bookcase to replace our junky one, a small carpet for our bedroom, looking for a better computer chair, etc, etc... like LRJohnson said, it's not exactly a need but stuff we would enjoy having...

I go for practical also, but anytime I get something that I don't pay for it's a luxury.

                Re: Gifts: practical or wishful?

Practical for me, wish list for dh.

Dh is always appalled with my wish list. But we just have so much crap we don't need and money is tight. I Rather get stuff we need. He thinks I am depreived - LOL. If it's not practical it is probably going on ebay. The exception is clothes. I enjoy clothes so it is pretty much what I ask for. Not that I need more, so something I don't really need but enjoy. I am overall not a big fan of clutter and knick knacks and all that so I could really do without gift exchanging overall. Bring on the cash - hehe. I think this is the reason we don't really exchange gifts with hardly anyone, I don't like the materialism of it all, rather give to the needy this time of year or something than accumulate more worthless crap.

I think overall though there are a few small things we need, we don't really need much at all, so it kind of compounds it. This year I don't have a thing on my wish list. I am racking my brain for stuff we need. There is nothing I really want either. Most of my friends, and even my hubby, think I am crazy. Christmas is s'posed to be the time of want, eh?

I don't really know. I usually ask for gourmet foods like chocolate. I guess it is both practical (you can eat it) and wishful.

                    Re: Gifts: practical or wishful?

Every year i have a hard time coming up with suggestions for my DH to get me, either practical or wishful. This year I did have a couple ideas but he didn't like them. I requested some guitar strings (I think I'm gettting them) and earrings (under 10 dollar variety). He's never picked out and given me earrings and I thought it was about time. He didn't I'm easy, bubble bath from the dollar store is cool with me.

lol... not if they are lucky... we just sold two decent working VCR's at the swap meet for $5 each because we had something like 6 in the house and didn't need so many...

                            Re: Gifts: practical or wishful?

I'm usually a practical gal. Last year I asked for new dishclothes.

This year I am asking for nothing, I don't "need" anything.

I am giving my girls cash because I am anti-gift giving just to give something. My MIL buys or makes crap every year for my girls and they don't use it. I don't want to do that to them, plus it is a waste of money. We have tried to talk to MIL about it, but she doesn't get it.

They are happy with the cash and it is sure making Christmas easier this year... but then OD is going to fly to NC to spend Christmas with YD since she will be alone. MD couldn't come home last year because of snow, so it looks like DH and I will be alone for the first time.

I'm thinking of adding car seat covers to my wish list. Our seats show every little water mark.

I am a practical gift giver for example dd's best friend will get a comforter & new niece will get more baby washes & shampoos & my brother will get a nascar clock & bathroom set.
Almost all the women on my list like my mom & mil & maybe my bestfriend will get bath & body works products those are useful bathwash & lotions

And dh will get a new bedding set. Usually give my grandma sheet sets. And my kids I try to give alot of clothes & blankets & books & learning things so I am definetly more practical now everyone else gives me & my kids a bunch of stuff we dont need example more toys or whatever!! I really get sick of all the toys & junk people buy my kids they give expensive toys my kids dont use or they are junk that dont work & I feel bad because I know they are expensive but stuff just isnt made like it was when I was a kid thats for sure so I feel so guilty!!!
