  • Free Offers

I read in a local article about someone who takes advantage of the "Free" offers on the internet. She has received xbox's, ipods, all sorts of electronics and sells them on eBay. She said she is very careful and sometimes she ends up having to sign up for things, but she uses a pre paid credit card as well as cancels when she needs to so she can't get screwed. I was wondering, does anyone on here do that? If so, how successful?

    Re: Free Offers

I know someone who does it, but she ended up spending so much time finding such deals that she wrecked her academic career and her marriage.

    Not worth it.

I guess I thought that sort of thing was a myth. Can you really do that?

        Re: Free Offers

I've never heard of anyone getting those kinds of free offers! ipods? how does she do that? I spend about 20 min a day at the freebie boards looking for free product samples, coupons, sample pet food ect, . Sometimes I feel like I get a super deal with coupon codes like 10 off 10 or something for a new customer- but I never get anything REALLY good - just stuff like 50 free prints of pictures or a full size bag of dog food.

I have heard of people having bad experiences with these types of things!

REMEMBER: There is no such thing as a free lunch!

I'm assuming they are out there because several years ago, I walked into Best Buy looking for a computer. I asked the salesman which computer was the best deal. He said, "this one free after rebate". I said, "free after rebate? What do you mean"? He proceeded to explain the deal to me. The rebates were all offered at the cash register and I walked out of the store with a free computer. I did not put up any money. Unbelievable I know, but it did happen. It was a Emachines computer.

Things like that never happen for me. What can you do?

                    Re: Free Offers

Every decent free offer I've seen comes with a catch. Plus, I was on another board, and someone said they signed up with some service to get a freebie, and when they tried to cancel later, the company kept charging their credit card! I would be too scared of that happening, so I'd rather stick to an in-store or mail-in rebate.

                      Re: Free Offers

I knew a girl who signed up for all these different things to get a free iPod. She got the iPod, and also a Columbia House DVD membership that she has to use for a year, and a bunch of other junk that is constantly bombarding her email inbox. I don't have time or patience to search through all the shady places to find the good ones.
