i was reading the thumbs up rubbermaid thread and it occured to me it would be good to have a thread where we can feel free to post about those products which we enjoy and feel are a good investment.

for example, in that thread i mentioned cutco cutlery because they are durable and come with a great guarentee among other reasons but forgot to mention corelle which i also enjoy.

my mom has had corelle dishes since i was in elementary and they hold up well to the demands of a busy kitchen and family life. i didn't even realize until college how easy other dishes are to break/chip/etc. DH had never even seen them until he met me and now he's a big fan too. it's what we plan on using once our old dishes wear out.

So which brands and products do you recommend?

my mom and i are both big corelle fans: the stuff is almost indistructable!

i also prefer anchor hocking/fireking glassware, but typically will try to buy used from their older lines if i'm looking for something heat resistant. it just wears better than their newer stuff, IMO.

McCulloch chainsaws. I have used mine to fall ten trees in three years. It had sat for a year and it startd without hesitation last weekend.

Columbia brand outerwear. Initially pricey, but it lasts forever. I also like their regular clothing for the same reason. My husband has to have Dewitt tools.

Here are some household products I really like:

Awesome Cleaner from the dollar store. It works so well it's scary. A coworker used it on the office refrigerator. It had some food stains left in that were really gross, no one wanted to touch it. Awesome cleaned it right up. I used to buy Fantastic and 409, now I buy only Awesome for a buck.

Arm and Hammer liquid laundry soap. I used to buy Liquid Tide, but now it is going on 8 bucks a bottle, even on sale it's around $6. (What's in this stuff, champagne?) I decided to try A&H when it was on sale for $3, I said if it didn't work, I'll go back to Tide. Well,it was great even on my ds clothes which can get beyond filthy. It is going on sale at store in my area for $2.50 per bottle 100oz size, so I plan to stock up. Also, I only use half a cap full, so it lasts even longer and I haven't seen a difference in clothes.

Bill Jack Dog Food - It'd great stuff, does not expand in water (think bloat here) and the dogs keep great coat and wieght with it. They also need less. 90 lbs dogs and they maintain great weight on 2 1/2 - 3 cups a day! It's more chicken, less filler.

These products are indestructible

and both companies offer a lifetime guarantee (i think!) which means if you can find them in a yard sale or thrift store they're a very safe bet.

Lands End clothes, in my experience, don't hardly wear out, either.

Hubby's had real good luck with clothing from Target, Merona brand shirts.

Love my CROCS shoes! Wore them on vacation a year ago, walked all over Scotland in 'em, still going strong.

Ditto the Arm & Hammer laundry detergent & Corelle.

Will have to try that Awesome cleaner if it's available locally. I really like Kaboom! for cleaning the shower stall quickly & w/little or no smell.

Lazyboy furniture. Our recliner is 25 years old, still in great shape - maybe 8 or 10 years ago one of the risers (whatchamacallits) that lift up the footrest broke, company sent a free replacement.

I once went to a yard sale and found cutco knives in a box of junk. They were in very bad shape. Completely unusable. I purchased them all for just $2. I mailed them to the company with a letter asking them to repair them. They returned new knives. Best yard sale deal I ever had.

I'm another Corelle loyalist. It's durable, attractive, and lightweight. My mom's is at least 25 years old and still going strong.

I'm also a big fan of Crocs shoes and I wear them almost exclusively now. They're so comfortable and easy to wear!

lol... i had a feeling that it would turn out that many of us would enjoy some of the same products...
b4freedom, that is an awesome deal, finding it at a garage sale that way.... that would be nice if it would happen to us...

i've actually seen and used some of the other brands mentioned too...

for pyrex, did you guys know that some of the stuff (ie beakers?) for school science labs is made from pyrex? talk about heat resistant...

i didn't even know about kitchen aid until my sister, a baker, moved here 2 years ago... now i am always recognizing their mixers on the cooking network and other places... i've even seen a few for sale at garage sales, usually for around $60 or so...

and LL Bean canvas bags are actually very sturdy... my mom got one from a catalog years ago and it's still doing great... i have a backpack that didn't hold up quite so well... the inside plastic type coating starting peeling... outside still looks new and it functions so i still use it...

also, gotta love tupperware... takes a lot of abuse to ruin them although we've managed to ruin a few pieces...

Canon is good for cameras, camcorders, and printers....
