I went to a Target store in a different location about an hour away from my home. I sure did not like the feeling in there. It seems quite more disorganized and very crowded compared to the one back home. I can definitley say the same for Wal-Mart as I seen some nice stores and some badly managed stores.

I am thinking it also depends on the management that runs the place at each location.
But Rules are Rules and it should be standard which ever store locations you go to.

I'm a big Target fan, except I can never seem to find what I need there. I returned half of my wedding gifts with no problem! in fact, they combined all of my $350 worth of gift certificates into one for me.

I don't see what the problem is with requiring a receipt. I worked in retail in college, and I completely understand the retailers position. When a size 18 woman walks into your department with a size 2 dress and says "I need to return this, it didn't fit" (no s--t shirlock) and they have no receipt but you have to give them the money back anyways, you know what is going on but you have no recourse. I have been in dressing rooms where women urinated on the clothing in an attempt to desensitize the sensor tags. Other women left their lovely sanitary napkins behind. This was a decent department store too.

That is why I completely understand the retailers position in requiring receipts. If all it requires of the legitimate buyer is to hold on to their receipt and return it within 90 days, it seems simple enough to me!

The problem arises when the person making the return isn't the buyer, but the recipient of a gift. When my cousin in California sends me a gift to my home in New Jersey and I need to return or exchange it, I don't have the receipt. Or even if the giver is local. I don't want to go and ask the person for the receipt.

I understand that as that has happened to me before. I automatically get gift receipt along with my regular receipt when I make purchase at Target. But I think blaming Target when the gift giver did not provide the gift receipt with the gift is the wrong way to go about it.
