I am, ironically, living right outside Detroit. I know nothing about cars but would like to learn. If I could do some basic repairs I'd save a lot. I know Home Depot has free home improvement clinics, but I'm looking for someplace that offers free car care clinic. Does anyone know of such a place?

check into your local parts stores (napa, autozone, advance, etc), they may be able to help you out. it's in their best interest for you to be a car-repair DIY'er: you'd come to them to get your bits & pieces!

I don't really know of any place that offers such a service. I grew up working on cars, so I know quite a bit. I am currently a member of a few automotive forums. You may want to check into something like that. Or you can ask me about some basic car care stuff. I'd be happy to help anyway that I could.

Do you have any 'Vo-techs - vocational technical' schools in your area? Here we have these that teach kids this kind of stuff and they offer night classes for adults. You ought to be able to find a class of the sort you are looking for at one of these kinds of educational facilities.
