  • What do you do for a living (work, home business, other?)

I am very curious about this. My wife works, shes has a great postion with a non-profit company that really takes care of its employees and family. It is in the developmental disabilites field and offers her alot of satisfaction as well as perks like great health, cafeteria plans, several retirement vehicles etc.
I haven't worked ( a job) due to bad respitory problems in about 4 years now. I keep house, cook, shop, shift my kid from place to place, invest. I also paint and intend to sell more of my art hopefully and I write as the Frugal Father (tm) as well.

We are not rich in money but we are rich in life with this situation, what about you guys.

I'm a family practice physician practicing in the poorest city in the country (according to the latest report).

My wife is a secretary at our synagogue. She was a SAHM until early '05 when she was offered that position and couldn't turn it down.

I am an accountant. I am lucky this is my dream job because the pay ain't so bad. I work for a small CPA firm. I think it is so important to work a job you enjoy, obviously people I Assume I Work for the money. Though if I Was working for the money I Would not work at a CPA firm - LOL - I would be a CFO or something - but I prefer a low stress job. CPA firms are getting better though....

My husband is still trying to decide what he wants to do - a SAHD for now - in the past he was a marketing manager, for now he is trying to break into TV/Film (editin & film making). He is taking this time to pursue the whole film thing though unless we move to LA I am not sure he has that many options. Interestingly he has seen a real niche for film marketing so he is working at that for now trying to build up some experience, working commission only. I think for now that is where he will probably end up. He enjoys marketing films much more than he did semi conductors...

I am a grad student in the Geography Department at MSU. When I graduate (hopefully next fall) I want to get a soil scientist position for the NRCS back in WI where we are from. My DH is a machinist for a body part replacement shop here in Lansing.

SAHM on the tail-end of homeschooling - trying to get my last two boys at home to be drivers. I think they like Mom driving them around - both have vehicles that I tote them about in to their jobs- one has his learner's permit. The other one is just lazy.

Seriously it must be a homeschool thing, because neither one have been lusting after their driver's license like we did!

Soon they'll both be driving I'm hoping and then I may go to some PT employment to gain the last bit of credits I need to pull Social Security on my own merits. Formerly I owned my own restaraunt/lunch counter in an office building - need a few more school credits to get my accounting degree.

So I'm in toss up stage do I go back to school or back to work or both or full time or part time or in what order or forgedaboudit? On the side I junqtique in an antique mall. I have no burning desire to do any employment at all...I hate workin' for 'the man'.

I've done a lot of jobs in my life - waitress, managed a hospital credit union, done credit & collections, repo woman, legal secretary, worked at a finance company, an insurance office, lots of temp jobs, ran a large non-profit as President, put out an ezine, editor of a magazine, fund-raiser for non-profit, served on a Board of Directors as Managing Director, etc. Not as bad as it sounds as some of these were concurrent! I'm not nearly as bippity-boppity as all that sounds. Remember I started working at age 12.

Have done various consultancy things on the side and also some freelance writing. I could type, or I could sew, or I could do bookkeeping, any number of other things, etc., as a business but none of those things strike me as anything I want to do. Ho-hum. I'm with Broken Arrow, I STILL don't know what I want to do when I grow up!

But I think I need to hurry up and find out before it's too late to run away and join the circus! I SHOULD finish my education in case I'm widowed and HAVE TO support myself. However 'shoulds' make me run the other way! I need to find a good guidance counselor and seek some clarification! Thanks so much (NOT!) for bringing up what I keep putting on the back burner because I don't want to think about it!!

I'm a SAHM to my three kiddos. I whole heartedly take on the finances, cooking, cleaning, everything to do with the house.

My husband is a Construction Trainer at the moment for a home builder here in the Charlotte area.

I sell real estate (maybe $6-8k per year), working anywhere from 2-10 hours in a typical week. I also work 20 hours/wk. for the state of NY doing service coordination for developmentally disabled individuals. Great pay and benefits.
DH returned to school last year to get his teaching degree. He is student teaching now and hopes to find a position in January.

I have not worked in about 10 years. My husband has been building homes in the North Georgia mountains for the past 22 years. I pay the bills and do all his bookkeeping by hand.

I work in the media/entertainment business, sometimes full time, sometimes freelance. These days, it's been full time, thank goodness.

I am a teacher here in Central Illinois. This is my 21st year of full time teaching, I substituted for two years before that -- back then you had to prove you were worth hiring. Before that I worked for a publishing company. My dh is a library assistant on the public library bookmobile.

I'm doing research in neuroscience at a university medical school. My lab is working on the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory.

The project I'm most involved in is studying Alzheimer's Disease.

Chalk mine up as another job that is supported by taxpayer's dollars. Please keep it flowing, because no NIH grants equals no job for me (not to mention no cure for Alzheimer's!).

I am a Process Engineer at an electronics company. I've been with the same company since I was in high school (started part time and didn't intend to stay) I went to school for engineering and chemistry (all paid for by employer), and here I am 12 years later.
Earlier this year I was able to switch to 2nd shift so I could stay home with DS during the day. About a month ago I was asked to be the 2nd shift supervisor.
