  • will you participate Black Friday ???

Just wondering how many people take advantage of the deals or avoid the stores on Black Friday?

The day after Thanksgiving is frequently referred to as "Black Friday". One of the major U.S. holiday shopping days, it is the day many U.S. consumers begin their annual Christmas shopping. The day is heavily promoted by retailers both in newspapers and with television commercials. The origin of the term "Black Friday" comes from the shift to profitability many retailers experience during the holiday season. Black Friday was historically when retailers went from being unprofitable, or "in the red," to being profitable, or "in the black".

I usually don't. I can't handle being in crowded malls and stuff. I usually do my shopping during the week, during the day if at all possible. I probably miss some deals, but I like enjoying the process more than having to dread it.

I rather be at home sitting infront of the fire relazing then to be in overcrowded stores. One thought was, do they have Black Friday online shopping? I could probably handle that but I don't have anything I need to shop for at this time.

I used to really like Black Friday, but now retailers have caught on and don't lower their prices. They just put out a lot of hype.

Gruntina, the Monday after is for online shopping (seriously). When people get back to the office on Monday morning, they surf all the online sites looking for deals.

I don't shop. Part of me enjoys participating in Buy Nothing Day; the other part of me just doesn't enjoy shopping.

My Guy did pick me up a $175 flat screen monitor one year on "that day" as well as a couple of cheap thumb drives. So I suppose I have benefitted from the day. But boy, I won't shop.

Nope. I have no interest in shopping as a contact sport.

My mom and I always go. Its a tradition for us. Yeah, the crowds are a bummer, but its still fun for us. Its not about getting cheap stuff (well, okay, some of it is) but it is more about having fun.

I have worked in retail too long to ever think about being a shopper on black friday. I had to be at work at 2 am (I had to open a store that opened at 5) that day.

                  I hate crowds!

Some of the indie business women I know would like to see an alternative to Black Friday, sort of a "Shop Indie" movement. That I can support - especially from the comfort of my own home.

I generally don't go to the larger stores. I scope out the ads on Thanksgiving Day, finding the smaller stores that may have something I really want or have been waiting for. Since they open at different times, I kind of map out which stores to hit up in a certain order. Last year, the stores I went to were almost empty while everyone else was duking it out at the larger ones.

I don't like fighting crowds either.

I'd do it if there was something I really, really wanted and there was a great deal out there for it....

But I'm staying home this Black Friday.

Same here. Mom and I both took the day off from work to go out together.

Itll never beat 2 years ago. I bought my 1992 Celica Alltrac on that Black Friday..

I often end up going, not to buy anything, but just to enjoy the displays and the windows... I think this year I may make a conscious effort to participate in buy nothing day, though. Even when I don't buy anything while shopping, I often treat myself to a meal out, which always kills my 'buy nothing day' plan.

Hate crowds. Black friday reminds me of "filenes basement" when they have those wedding dress sales or when people mow you down to get into toys r us for the next big toy. Its a hassle I don't need and find I don't really save on. Crowds can make you purchase things you don't need just to get the heck out of the store-bad for the frugal minded. I sign up for notices from stores that have the quality I want like LL Bean, Target, etc and check things versus there sales and closeouts... With electronics its moot because when I was younger it was gotta have it, now I am happy being behind the trends...its cheaper.

Crowds, who need 'em. I even go grocery shopping early in the morning to avoid them.

                              Black Friday? NO way.

                              Cyber Monday? NO thanks.

I don't even go to the day after Christmas sales.

The real sales won't begin until Jan/Feb when the real clearance prices start to appear and the leftover christmas merchandice has their original retail prices slashed big time, from 75% to even 90% off.
