Re: Do commercials ever so annoy you that you vow to never buy the product?

there's a commercial from a few years ago that makes me want to hurl. It was for Swiffer (I think) and it involved neighbors cleaning each other's houses, and being very excited and giddy about that. One couple had a swiffer, another didn't.

Ok if the excitement of your life involves cleaning your neighbor's house, I suggest you get out some more. If you had asked me to do that, I'd laugh in your face.

Well, call me a dumby. I had to go look head on up in google to remember what it was, lol. I guess I'm a little behind the times these days. I watch PBS usually, if anything at all (we don't have cable). We cancelled the newspaper to help save money and I don't own a radio...anymore. If I do watch another station I am usually up refilling my drink, going to the bathroom or preparing things for the next day (lunches, kids activities, etc.) during the commercial break, so I don't really get to see them too much. Sounds to me like maybe it's a good thing...

I don't watch much TV either, but last weekend when I wanted to learn more about that terrorist video with the personable smiling & laughing Mohamed Atta, I should have simply searched the news sites, instead of subjecting myself to some of this really irritating corporate marketers, LOL

I don't have cable, newspaper, or anything. In fact, I usually don't even read the news on the net....

But I do get my news from public radio; usually NPR / BBC when commuting to and from work.

Oh, but back to the original topic, YES, there have been commercials that have been so annoying that it actually repelled me from their products. Usually, it involves annoying people doing annoying things that are somehow supposed to be "funny" but isn't.

One example, was the office commercials from Burger King, before the Burger King King came along. In this series of commercials, this one co-worker was always being picked on or getting the short end of the stick. I honestly don't get why that makes for a compelling commercial. It didn't get me to stop eating Burger King or anything, but all things being equal, I went elsewhere.

I hate most commercials. I find most a big turn off. Some products I refuse to purchase just because of the commercials. For example, Pepsi. Um, if I wanted to be cool I wouldn't trip out a pepsi truck to show up at a party.

There is a Target spot on right now that ends with a woman singing. I can't change the channel fast enough! I would never boycott Tarjey

I friggin HATE those Target commercials that have the woman singing about "gotta have it right now, I want more." The promotion of materialism in the commerical makes me want to projectile vomit.
