  • OT: What to say

Ok I've been out of work for a few months, and I have a promising lead for a job at a nonprofit credit cousneling agency.

THe problem is that the person in charge of hiring said that she would contact me on Monday, and it's Tuesday and she never did.

Should I send her another email? What should i say in it?

I would, I guess I would just ask if they had made any decision regarding the job?

      tell her you're still interested.

BTW I've been interested in working at a nonprofit credit counseling agency. What background of knowledge and experience is required?

        Re: OT: What to say

        I'd call.

"Hi, this is _____. I had an interview with you on_______, and was expecting to hear something from you yesterday. I am very interested in the position. Is there anything you can tell me today?"

An email is fine, too. If it was me I'd be looking for a direct answer. Maybe they are still interviewing people, maybe she was sick yesterday, maybe they are checking references, or you didn't get the position.

It would be nice you to know whether you need to keep looking. Good luck.

Make sure you check them out with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General in your state to see if any consumer complaints have been filed against them. Also beware of agencies where your performance and pay will be based on how many debt management plans you "sell."

i've never actually interviewed, and I emailed her friday saying that I would like to meet in person to discuss this position. She said she would get back to me on Monday and she never did.

I am under the impression that several positions are open

Just call and ask again to set a date and time. You can do this.

I own a tiny business and when the sun shines bright I need a bit of extra help. Since I am a multi tasker to begin with normally the employee propects that bug the stew out of me tend to get the job. So If you want it call But all means. Sometimes a phone call a day will mean the differance between an employer thinking you really want the job and not! That is how I deside who gets it!

Keep in mind that Non-profit organization business runs on "soft" money and not hard money. (i.e. money to run the organization depends on fundraiser, grants, state and so on) this often leads to non-profit organization business to take longer time to process paperwork or get permits to pay more to hire another person and so on. Its really an up and down expeirience especially during a time a natural disaster happen. Ie... Hurricane Katrina or the Tusumi often lead people to donate money to them instead of the usual non-profit they were paying for in the past.

Dont get me wrong, I love non-profits and hope to have a non-profit targeting people with disabilities one day. A lot of paitence is needed when inquiring with a non-profit.

Actually, credit counseling agencies are funded by ... our favorite organizations, the credit card companies! They pay the agencies a percentage (their "fair share") of the fees they collect from debtors who sign up for debt management plans. So in effect the counseling agencies act as collection agencies for the credit card companies. The credit card companies are paying less than they did in previous years, so the credit card agencies are forced to rely more on "soft" money as Gruntina points out.

Anyway, best of luck with your interview, and let us know how it all turns out!
